Cleveland National Air Show

Marine Bell Boeing V-22

Last summer we took the kids down to see the Cleveland National Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport. It was the last day of the show and the kids were having fun so we stuck around till the very end. I am glad we did because I was able to catch this U.S. Marine Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey returning home after the show. Notice the Marine hanging out of the side waving to the few of us that were still there.  It’s a pretty impressive machine and a pretty impressive show.

The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tilt-rotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing capability. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the high-speed performance of a turboprop aircraft.

United Airlines

Today’s photo is of a United Airlines 757 at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Here in Cleveland we are very fortunate to be a hub for United Airlines. Having direct routes to so many business and leisure destinations is a huge plus for our community.

Some interesting facts about United Airlines:

United is the world’s largest airline and has over 80,000 employees.

On October 1, 2010, UAL Corporation merged with Continental Airlines and became known as United Continental Holdings.

United Airlines originated from the Varney Air Lines air mail service of Walter Varney, who also founded Varney Speed Lines which later became Continental Airlines.

In 1985 United Purchased Pan Am Airlines entire Pacific division

In 1995 United was the first airline to fly the Boeing 777

In 2012 United will be the first US Airline to fly the revolutionary Boeing 787

Thunderstruck – US Air Force Thunderbirds

US Air Force Thunderbirds

Today’s photo: Thunderstruck

Thanks to my brother and sister in law I had the opportunity to take my family down to the Cleveland National Air Show this year. I hadn’t been down to see the show since I was a kid and I have to say I was pretty impressed by the whole thing. Everyone was friendly and we were able to talk to a lot of the pilots and ground crews about the aircraft. My kids loved going inside the planes and tanks that were on the ground. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds were of course everyone’s favorite. It’s amazing just how good those pilots are. To watch them fly that close and that fast is jaw dropping and just really cool. I will
be going with the family again next year for sure.
