Winter on Lake Erie

Today’s Photo: Winter on Lake Erie

This photo was taken on Whiskey Island in Cleveland last winter. It was so cold that I couldn’t stand outside for more than few minutes at a time. In the background you can see a ship making its way towards the mouth of the Cuyahoga.

Today’s Photo: Cleveland Metroparks

I thought that I would post this photo because I am already missing the leaves on the trees. One of the reasons I like living in Ohio is that I always have a new season to look forward to. I always am a little excited for the next season to start. In the winter I can take the kids tobogganing at the Chalet in Strongsville and ice skating in Wade Oval. Then I look forward to the spring because it’s no longer winter. I like winter but it gets old by mid February. Then comes the summer and there is obviously tons of stuff to do during the summer. Then back to fall. Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love the weather, all the colors and the holidays. Then it starts all over.

Today’s Photo: Into the Sun

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

This photo was taken looking directly into the sun. By using HDR I was able to still bring out the details on the front of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument. To the right you can see the top of the Terminal Tower. It looks like it is leaning because of distortion from a wide angle lens. That or it just leaned over so be in the photo also. To the left you can see the old May Company Building. I wish those department stores were still downtown, especially this time of year.

Tugging on the River

Today’s Photo: Tugboat

Tugboats have been used to help guide larger ships up and down the narrow, crooked Cuyahoga River for over a century now. This is a photo of a modern day tugboat pushing a barge down the Cuyahoga towards Lake Erie.

Today’s Photo: From a Distance

Today’s Photo is of downtown Cleveland from a distance. I just think it’s cool to see the flats, the bridges and all buildings downtown in the background. Have a great weekend.

German Cultural Garden

German Cultural Garden Cleveland

Today’s Photo: German Cultural Garden

From the CCG website:

“Second Cultural Garden to be constructed, after the Hebrew Cultural Garden in 1926. German-American Karl Wolfram was instrumental in creating the Cultural Gardens and in developing the German Cultural Garden. Like the Hebrew Garden before it, the first German cultural figures to be recognized were poet-philosophers (Goethe, Schiller, and Heine), musicians (Bach and Beethoven) and writers (von Hutten). The German Cultural Garden expanded their honored cultural heros to include artist Durer, dramatist/critic Lessing, educator Froebel, physical culturist Jahn, and scientist Humboldt. In the 21st century the Garden recognizes “Balaskapelle” or traditional, German, brass band music with its annual Conrad Mizer/Karl Wolfram concert in the Garden with regional German-American bands and singers. Conrad Mizer was a 19th century German emmigrant who first started “Fruhschoppenmusic” or public park concerts in the area and then went on to be one of those instrumental in the founding of the predecessor organizations of the Cleveland Orchestra.”

Ripples on the Pond

Mapleside Farms

Today’s Photo: Ripples on the Pond

This is a photo of the small pond at the bottom of hill at Mapleside Farms in Brunswick, Ohio. By taking the photo low to the ground with a wide angle lens it creates an illusion that the pond is much larger than it actually is.

I hope everyone has a great Veterans Day and a great weekend. I will be out of the county until Monday afternoon but I am still hoping to post a photo before the day is over.

Medina County Farm

Today’s Photo: Medina Farm

I know the name of this blog is Cleveland in HDR but I intend on sharing photos from all around Northeast Ohio (and maybe a few from
my world travels now and then). I was driving down Pearl Rd. towards Medina the other day when I saw this farm. I just had to stop and take a photo.
