Today’s Photo: Peter B. Lewis Building at Case Western Reserve University
From the CWRU website:
“Dedicated in 2002, the Peter B. Lewis Building is home to the Weatherhead School of Management. Named in honor of lead donor Peter B. Lewis, chairman of the Progressive Corporation, and designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the building is the most advanced management school facility in the world and reflects Weatherhead’s international reputation for innovative management education.”
“The Weatherhead School of Management is different from other business schools. We are bold in our ideas, creative in our approach, and adaptive in our interactions within a changing business environment. We’ve enhanced traditional management education by integrating the fundamentals of business with ideas and practices that change individuals, organizations, and societies. Our graduates are ready to add immediate value to their organizations, their communities, and the world.
On Case Western Reserve University’s campus, located at the heart of University Circle, students find themselves in one of the densest concentrations of educational, scientific, medical and cultural institutions in the United States. Weatherhead’s neighbors include the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and University Hospitals.”

Today’s Photo: Squires Castle
Squires Castle was built in the 1890s by Feargus B. Squire (a founder of Standard Oil Company) for use as the gatekeeper’s house for his future country estate, which was never built. He purchased 525 acres of land but never completed the project. Squire sold the property in 1922 and the Cleveland Metroparks acquired it in 1925. Today Squire’s Castle is open to the public free-of-admission.

Today’s Photo: Winter on Lake Erie
This photo was taken on Whiskey Island in Cleveland last winter. It was so cold that I couldn’t stand outside for more than few minutes at a time. In the background you can see a ship making its way towards the mouth of the Cuyahoga.

Today’s Photo: Cleveland Metroparks
I thought that I would post this photo because I am already missing the leaves on the trees. One of the reasons I like living in Ohio is that I always have a new season to look forward to. I always am a little excited for the next season to start. In the winter I can take the kids tobogganing at the Chalet in Strongsville and ice skating in Wade Oval. Then I look forward to the spring because it’s no longer winter. I like winter but it gets old by mid February. Then comes the summer and there is obviously tons of stuff to do during the summer. Then back to fall. Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love the weather, all the colors and the holidays. Then it starts all over.

Today’s Photo: Into the Sun
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
This photo was taken looking directly into the sun. By using HDR I was able to still bring out the details on the front of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument. To the right you can see the top of the Terminal Tower. It looks like it is leaning because of distortion from a wide angle lens. That or it just leaned over so be in the photo also. To the left you can see the old May Company Building. I wish those department stores were still downtown, especially this time of year.

Today’s Photo: Tugboat
Tugboats have been used to help guide larger ships up and down the narrow, crooked Cuyahoga River for over a century now. This is a photo of a modern day tugboat pushing a barge down the Cuyahoga towards Lake Erie.

Today’s Photo: Moses Cleaveland Statue
“Moses Cleaveland was a lawyer, politician, soldier, and surveyor from Connecticut who founded the U.S. city of Cleveland, Ohio, while surveying the Western Reserve in 1796. The place called “Cleaveland” eventually became known as “Cleveland”. Oneexplanation as to why the spelling changed is that, in 1830, when the first newspaper, the Cleveland Advertiser, was established, the editor discovered that the head-line was too long for the form, and accordingly left out the letter “a” in the first syllable of “Cleaveland”, which spelling was at once adopted by the public. An alternative explanation is that Cleaveland’s surveying party misspelled the name of the future town on their original map.”

Today’s Photo: From a Distance
Today’s Photo is of downtown Cleveland from a distance. I just think it’s cool to see the flats, the bridges and all buildings downtown in the background. Have a great weekend.

Today’s Photo: German Cultural Garden
From the CCG website:
“Second Cultural Garden to be constructed, after the Hebrew Cultural Garden in 1926. German-American Karl Wolfram was instrumental in creating the Cultural Gardens and in developing the German Cultural Garden. Like the Hebrew Garden before it, the first German cultural figures to be recognized were poet-philosophers (Goethe, Schiller, and Heine), musicians (Bach and Beethoven) and writers (von Hutten). The German Cultural Garden expanded their honored cultural heros to include artist Durer, dramatist/critic Lessing, educator Froebel, physical culturist Jahn, and scientist Humboldt. In the 21st century the Garden recognizes “Balaskapelle” or traditional, German, brass band music with its annual Conrad Mizer/Karl Wolfram concert in the Garden with regional German-American bands and singers. Conrad Mizer was a 19th century German emmigrant who first started “Fruhschoppenmusic” or public park concerts in the area and then went on to be one of those instrumental in the founding of the predecessor organizations of the Cleveland Orchestra.”
