Backstage of the Ohio Theater

Brent

Backstage ohio theater

Can you guess what this photo is? This photo was taken backstage at the historic Ohio Theater in Playhouse Square. These ropes are stretching toward a light at the top of the theater. The ropes control some of the curtains and effects in the theater. I just thought it was kind of a cool angle and now you can say you know all the ropes when it comes to the theater.

Cleveland National Air Show

Marine Bell Boeing V-22

Last summer we took the kids down to see the Cleveland National Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport. It was the last day of the show and the kids were having fun so we stuck around till the very end. I am glad we did because I was able to catch this U.S. Marine Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey returning home after the show. Notice the Marine hanging out of the side waving to the few of us that were still there.  It’s a pretty impressive machine and a pretty impressive show.

The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tilt-rotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing capability. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the high-speed performance of a turboprop aircraft.

Cleveland’s Bridges

Boating on cuyahoga

Today’s photo was taken near where Cuyahoga River meets Lake Erie on a warm summer evening. I like this photo because it shows not only the river but a few of Cleveland’s amazing bridges and buildings in the background.

Cleveland Skyline

Brent

best Cleveland skyline

Today’s photo is a reworked version of a panoramic shot of the Cleveland skyline I took last summer. It’s one of my favorites because it includes Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Terminal Tower, Key Bank Building, 200 Public Square (BP Building), the William G Mather, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center and Voinovich Park. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather.

Cleveland’s Skyscrapers

Brent

Cleveland skyscrapers

Today’s photo was taken from the top of the Terminal Tower and shows two more of Cleveland’s tall skyscrapers.  Key Tower can be seen on the left side of the photo. It is the tallest building in Cleveland and the tallest in Ohio. The tower is visible from as far as twenty miles outside of downtown Cleveland. The tower on the right is called by its address 200 Public Square. This tower was built as the headquarters for Standard Oil of Ohio and it was called the Sohio Building. It was renamed the BP Tower when Sohio merged with British Petroleum. When by left the name of the building just became its address. 200 Public Square is the third tallest building in Cleveland and it is the fourth tallest in Ohio.

The Fountain of Eternal Life

Brent

Fountain of Eternal Life

From Wikipedia –

“The Fountain of Eternal Life, also known as the War Memorial Fountain and Peace Arising from the Flames of War, is a statue and fountain in Cleveland, Ohio designed by Cleveland Institute of Art graduate Marshall Fredericks and dedicated on May 30, 1964. The sculpture, which serves as the city’s major memorial to its citizens that served in World War II, is situated on Memorial Plaza, which is part of the Cleveland Mall.

The fountain was initiated and promoted by the Cleveland Press, which raised $250,000 in donations from private citizens and various organizations for the project. The centerpiece is a 35-foot (10.7 m) bronze figure representing man escaping from the flames of war and reaching skyward for eternal peace. The bronze sphere from which the figure rises represents the earth. Four granite carvings, representing the geographic civilizations of the world, are placed around the sphere. On the surface of the polished granite rim surrounding the fountain are bronze plates bearing the names of 4,177 Greater Clevelanders who perished in WWII and in the Korean War. Following a complete restoration during the construction of an underlying parking garage in connection with the neighboring Key Tower, the memorial was rededicated on Veterans Day in 1991”.
