The Port of Cleveland is located on the shores of Lake Erie at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River. The port handles between 11 million and 16 million tons of cargo and generates approximately $1 billion in trade each year. The moon can be seen in the background behind the Terminal Tower.

bike cleveland

It’s been a mild winter and in the next month or so the weather will begin to get even warmer.  Why not grab your bike and go for a ride? Cleveland and Northeast Ohio are a great place to go biking. There are and endless trails and places to explore in the city, the Metroparks and the Cuyahoga Valley. Try a bike ride though downtown Cleveland or University Circle. If the biking in the city isn’t your cup of tea why not try the parks and valley? You can ride along the historic towpath or bike the trails and catch the rairoad back to your car. If you are really not sure where you would like to ride you should check out the Great Lakes Touring Co. for all kinds of great information. Here is the link: www.bikecle.com

The Avenue at Tower City Center

Brent

terminal Tower tower city

The Avenue at Tower City Center from about.com : “The Terminal Tower at Public Square, built in 1930, is the architectural symbol of Cleveland. Originally set atop the Union rail terminal, the beautiful ground level space has been transformed into a spacious and beautiful shopping and entertainment complex called the Tower City Center.

The floors are marble, the railings are polished brass, and the ceilings are hand-painted. Retail stores are tucked into vintage spaces as well as new wide-open, light and airy lofts”. http://cleveland.about.com/od/shoppingincleveland/a/avenue.htm

"james a garfield monument"

Today’s photo was taken inside the President James A. Garfield Memorial in Lakeview Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.

From the Lakeview Cemetery website: “Designed by architect George Keller, the Garfield Monument was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1890. The Garfield Monument stands 180 feet tall and is constructed of Berea Sandstone. Around the exterior of the balcony are five, terra cotta panels by Casper Bubel, with over 110 figures all life size, depicting Garfield’s life and death. The panels include Garfield as a teacher, as Major General in the Civil War, an orator, taking the oath of office and laying in state in the rotunda of the Capital in Washington DC”.

Backstage of the Ohio Theater

Brent

Backstage ohio theater

Can you guess what this photo is? This photo was taken backstage at the historic Ohio Theater in Playhouse Square. These ropes are stretching toward a light at the top of the theater. The ropes control some of the curtains and effects in the theater. I just thought it was kind of a cool angle and now you can say you know all the ropes when it comes to the theater.

Cleveland National Air Show

Marine Bell Boeing V-22

Last summer we took the kids down to see the Cleveland National Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport. It was the last day of the show and the kids were having fun so we stuck around till the very end. I am glad we did because I was able to catch this U.S. Marine Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey returning home after the show. Notice the Marine hanging out of the side waving to the few of us that were still there.  It’s a pretty impressive machine and a pretty impressive show.

The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is a tilt-rotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing capability. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the high-speed performance of a turboprop aircraft.

Today’s photo was taken near where Cuyahoga River meets Lake Erie on a warm summer evening. I like this photo because it shows not only the river but a few of Cleveland’s amazing bridges and buildings in the background.

best Cleveland skyline

Today’s photo is a reworked version of a panoramic shot of the Cleveland skyline I took last summer. It’s one of my favorites because it includes Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Terminal Tower, Key Bank Building, 200 Public Square (BP Building), the William G Mather, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center and Voinovich Park. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather.
